Today is International Women’s Day and we wanted to host a conversation about the day because… it’s complicated! I’m chatting with coach Rocío Caballero-Gill, and we wanted to have a candid thoughtful chat about international Women’s Day, what it means to focus on women specifically in academia, and how this company has changed over the last 5 years with respect to developing our programs through a lens of gender equity and inclusion.

Rocío shares her work developing a professional organization called GeoLatinas and we talk about the difference between including and welcoming.

Key points discussed:

  • What is appealing about International Women’s Day [2:45]
  • The purpose of International Women’s Day, and the emphasis on Women [6:35]
  • Rocio’s approach at GeoLatinas [8:30]
  • How GeoLatinas came to be [10:00]
  • The difference between welcoming and inclusion [14:30]
  • The different needs of intersecting identities [20:50]
  • A path of reflection [22:30]
